This is a disability awareness training program sponsored by the Albany/Capital District Chapter of the Spina Bifida Association of America. Target Audience - This program is designed for students in the 4th through 6th grades and can be adapted for middle school, high school, school district staff, and community groups. Design - Students work in small groups where they experience a variety of challenges. Through hands-on activities and presentations from the instructors, they experience what it might be like to be a person who is differently-abled, methods a person who is differently-abled might use to address their challenges, and responses that students might offer to someone who is differently-abled. Sessions include discussions, questions, and answers regarding the challenges a person is faced with when they are differently-abled. Examples are given of disabilities that are both readily apparent and those that are not.
